AN investigation is underway into the assault of a 15-year-old student of El Dorado East Secondary School.

It is alleged that the student was assaulted outside of the school compound by the father of a fellow student.

This was disclosed on Thursday by Acting Commissioner of Police (ACP) Operations Junior Benjamin during a press conference at the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) Administration Building, Port of Spain.

El Dorado East Secondary School was not one of the 50 secondary schools selected by the Ministry of Education to have police presence.

Benjamin reported that approximately 3 pm on Tuesda,y a report was made to the Tunapuna Police Station by a father and his 15-year-old son.

It was alleged the father of another student approached the victim outside of the school compound and slapped the boy.

Benjamin said, “Based on the facts before us these situations are unacceptable and will not be tolerated by the Police Service. The investigation will continue, and we will ensure that we leave absolutely no stone unturned as we seek to ensure a level of order, a level of safety and security in our school environment, both inside the school and outside the school,”

He confirmed investigations into the matter had started.

Mirroring Benjamin’s disapproval was Minister of Education Dr Michael Dowlath.

Speaking at Thursday’s post-cabinet press briefing, Dowlath said the Ministry’s policy of zero tolerance also extended to parents and guardians.

Dowlath said the matter was in the hands of the TTPS.
