THE Ministry of Education is investigating the altercation between a teacher and a student at the Arima North Secondary School.

The investigation comes after a video of a female teacher and a female student getting into a physical altercation was widely shared on social media.

The incident comes on the heels of the government’s decision to place police officers in school and Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s assertion that a zero-tolerance policy to school violence will be enacted in efforts to end school violence.

Addressing the video, the ministry issued a release on Thursday, condemning the incident and assuring the public that a full investigation would be launched into the matter.

The release stated, “The Ministry of Education has taken note, with deep concern, of a video circulating on social media depicting an altercation at Arima North Secondary School.”

It stated, “A full investigation into the incident has been initiated. The Ministry assures the public that appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against all those found culpable, in keeping with the provisions of the Education Act, Ministry policy, and the laws of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.”

The ministry reaffirmed its commitment to upholding a zero-tolerance policy regarding indiscipline and violence in schools.
