AFTER Tuesday’s rainfall, the Ministry of Rural Development and Local Government (MORDLG) is confirming no major emergencies occurred and all branches of the ministry’s disaster relief team remain activated.
In a press release sent on Tuesday night, the ministry stated due the afternoons heavy rain several areas in Trinidad experienced street and flash flooding. These areas included: Diego Martin, Ariapita Avenue, Marabella and along SS Erin Road in the vicinity of Batchiya Village.
“At this time, only incidents of flooding have been reported, with no major emergencies confirmed. The Disaster Management Coordinating Units across all municipal corporations remain fully activated and prepared to respond promptly and effectively as the situation evolves,” the Ministry stated.
They continued, “MORDLG remains vigilant and responsive to any adverse weather conditions and continues to work closely with Municipal Corporations and first responders to ensure the safety and well-being of all citizens.”
Tuesday’s afternoon storms, with rains lasting as long as three hours in some areas, saw severe street and flash flooding.
Rivers, especially those in the Northwestern part of the island, were observed to be near capacity.
Weather forecasters had warned that due to an incoming Tropical Wave, T&T could expect similar weather conditions on Wednesday afternoon.
