BRIDGETOWN– Attorney-at-law and long-time cricket administrator Calvin Hope has been elected as the new president of the Barbados Cricket Association (BCA).
In a landslide victory on Tuesday night at Kensington Oval, Hope, the current BCA vice-president secured more than half of the votes to become the organisation’s 12th president.
Following outgoing president Conde Riley’s departure, Hope accumulated 158 votes to defeat former BCA board member and former Barbados chairman of selectors Henderson Broomes (68), former West Indies cricket and Barbados captain Philo Wallace (57), and former vice-president and retired principal Jeff Broomes (13).
There was one spoiled vote.
Hope has been unsuccessful in three previous BCA presidential races, twice losing to former West Indies cricketer Joel Garner in 2007 and 2011, and missing out narrowly to Riley in 2023.
Attorney-at-law Gregory Nicholls was returned as secretary with 125 votes, beating out Joy-Ann Haigh. (CMC)
