DISCUSSIONS are being held to introduce bi-weekly flights between Trinidad and Tobago and the West African nation of Ghana, with hopes to begin the route in time for the tourist season.
In a press release on Monday, the Ministry of Trade, Investment and Tourism, said Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism, Satyakama Maharaj, and Parliamentary Secretary, Dr. Colin Neil Gosine, had met with Ghana’s Minister of State in charge of Special Initiatives, Emmanuel Kwadwo Agyekum, to discuss the proposed bi-weekly charter flights between the two countries.
The release said the Ministry was eager to “move forward with the technical and diplomatic coordination required to launch early pilot operations ahead of the upcoming peak tourism season.”
Tourist season in Ghana was typically between October to March, and T&T’s between December to April, with peak arrivals during the Carnival season in February.
The Ministry said, “This initiative marks a bold and strategic step in repositioning Trinidad and Tobago as the Caribbean’s Gateway to Africa, supporting deeper trade, tourism, and cultural exchanges between our regions.”
The release stated, the proposed airlink further aligned with the government’s broader objectives to advance South to South diplomacy, internationalise T&T’s as a tourist destination, and to strengthen connections in the diversification of the economy and national investment.
