A police officer is being treated at the Eric Williams Medical Sciences Complex (EWMSC) for stab wounds in the abdomen and arm after responding to the domestic violence call.
The officer’s attacker, a 42-year-old man, was shot and killed by another officer on the scene.
In a media release on Saturday, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated that at 1.30 pm on Saturday, officers of the North Central Division Task Force responded to a report of domestic violence in progress at #4 Lovers Lane, El Dorado.
Upon their arrival, officers heard screams for help from within the premises.
When their calls to be let in were not responded to, the officers, led by Corporal Persad, forced entry through a door on the eastern side of the premises.
Persad was attacked by the 42-year-old man, who stabbed him several times.
Officers came to his assistance and had cause to discharge their firearms as the suspect charged towards them.
Both Corporal Persad and the suspect were transported to the EWMSC, where the suspect was pronounced dead.
Corporal Persad remains in stable condition at the EWMSC, where he was visited by Commissioner of Police (CoP) Allister Guevarro.
The TTPS said the scene was visited by ASP Bharath, ASP Gonzales, Insp Jagroo and personnel of the North Central Division Crime Scene Department.
Enquiries are being continued by ASP Gonzales.
