A SUSPECT in a robbery who allegedly pointed a firearm at an off-duty soldier was shot and wounded on Monday.
Police reports are that a victim was seated in his vehicle around 12.50 am on Monday, when he was approached by two men, one armed with a gun, who announced a robbery.
The victim, 41, said he was dealt several blows about the body before having a quantity of jewellery taken from him in the St Joseph district.
An off-duty soldier who witnessed the incident is reported to have drawn his service pistol and call out to the assailants.
The armed suspect allegedly pointed the firearm in the direction of the soldier who became fearful for his life and discharged two rounds at the assailant, the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated.
The man was shot and wounded and taken to hospital for treatment, while the other suspect was arrested shortly after.
Also on Monday, between 3 pm and 6 pm officers of the Freeport Police Station conducted an intelligence-led operation in the Couva district.
During the exercise, the officers proceeded to Carli Bay Road, where they carried out a search of an abandoned structure.
The search resulted in the discovery of one pistol loaded with a magazine.
In the North Central Division, Task Force officers conducted an exercise between 6 pm and 10 pm.
Acting on information, the officers proceeded to the St Augustine district where they conducted a search of a bushy area which resulted in the discovery of one pistol and a magazine.
