81 Arrested in SoE

THE Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) reported that 81 persons have been arrested over a 72-hour period, in a State of Emergency update on Sunday.
They were arrested as the TTPS conducted a total of 185 coordinated operations targeting crime, traffic violations, and illegal firearms.

The TTPS stated on Sunday, “A total of 1,185 searches were conducted and 94 traffic operations carried out across all policing divisions resulting in the detection of 715 traffic offences and the arrest of 81 individuals. These efforts reflect a continued commitment to public safety and law enforcement presence across targeted areas.”

Among the key outcomes:
•         70 priority offenders were identified and targeted during operations.
•         eight illegal firearms were recovered, including four pistols, two revolvers, one shotgun, and one rifle, highlighting the ongoing threat posed by illegal weapon possession.
•         Quantities of Cannabis seized
•         Ammunition recovered totaled 47 rounds across multiple calibers: 10 rounds of 9mm, 16 rounds of .380,  seven rounds of .38, 10 rounds of 5.56mm and four rounds of 12-gauge.
Commissioner of Police, Allister Guevarro said, “These results are a clear indication that sustained operational pressure can yield tangible outcomes in the fight against crime and traffic violations.
“The officers remain vigilant and committed to disrupting criminal activity, protecting communities, and ensuring safer roads.”

 The operations also involved collaboration with various agencies and were intelligence-driven, focusing not just on enforcement, but deterrence and community reassurance.
In its summary of its first 24 hours of the TTPS conducted  104 coordinated law enforcement exercises, yielding 629 searches, 407 traffic offences detected from strategic roadblock operations and 56 arrests.
