COMMISSIONER of Police Allister Guevarro is warning all criminal elements that they will be dealt with according to law and to cease criminal activity.
He warned on Saturday, “When confronted by my officers, surrender peacefully.”
The Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) reported that on Friday night, officers of the Central Division Task Force North responded swiftly to a report of a stolen Nissan Tiida in the Enterprise district.
The vehicle was sighted, intercepted, and pursued, culminating in the suspect engaging the officers with a firearm.
In accordance with the use of force policy, officers discharged their service weapons to neutralise the threat.
The suspect was wounded, transported for medical attention, and later succumbed to his injuries.
A firearm was recovered at the scene.
While investigations remain ongoing, Guevarro, issued the warning.
He said, “I urge those who continue to inflict harm on our communities to put down the firearms, step away from violence, and choose to become productive members of society. Let tonight’s events serve as a solemn reminder that when confronted by my officers, surrender peacefully.
“Do not challenge them. It will not end well for you. The TTPS remains committed to restoring public confidence and preserving the safety and dignity of our citizens. Let us respect one another, uphold the law, and work together to build a nation founded on accountability and peace.”
The TTPS also thanked the public for its continued support and called on all citizens to report any suspicious activity through its confidential hotlines.
