THE Ministry of People, Social Development and Family Services (MPSDFS) is reaffirming its commitment to helping those who have recently lost their jobs due to programme adjustments.
In a press release on Wednesday, the MPSDFS stated it “reiterates its steadfast commitment to supporting citizens affected by recent programme adjustments resulting in loss of income. In response to recent media commentary and public concern regarding the socio-economic and emotional effects of job displacement, the Ministry continues to address the needs of vulnerable individuals and families through its established services.”
The release came just hours after People’s National Movement (PNM) Public Relations Officer Faris Al-Rawi questioned where the MPSDFS was, what grants are being offered to and what was being done to address the “psychological management of the trauma” of the almost 20,000 people who have been let go from government agencies and programmes.
The MPSDF said in terms of dealing with the psychological strain of the job losses, the Minister provides a range of support measures that included professional counselling, psycho-social support and on-going social assistance for citizens experiencing emotional distress, loss, or uncertainty.
They stated, “The Ministry remains committed to its mandate of delivering people-centred support and fostering resilience among the nation’s most vulnerable populations.”
The MPSDFS called on people in need of assistance or information to call their hotline at 800-1MSD (1673) or visit www.social.gov.tt.
