Modi’s Visit: See Traffic Restrictions

THE public is being advised of temporary traffic restrictions ahead and during the visit of the Prime Minister of India to Trinidad and Tobago this week.
The restrictions are listed in legal notice no 229, under The Motor Vehicles and Road Traffic Act, Chap. 48:50, an Order made by the Commissioner of Police under section 68(1) dated June 30, 2025.

The Order commences on Wednesday at 10 pm and expires on Friday at 10 pm.
Parking is prohibited on:
(a)      Dock Road;
(b)     Post Office Road;
(c)      the western side of the northbound carriageway of Wrightson Road, between South Quay and Dock Road.
On Friday from 4 am to 2 pm, parking is further prohibited on:
(a)      St Vincent Street, between Gordon Street and Independence Square North;
(b)     Sackville Street, between Wrightson Road and St. Vincent Street;
(c)      Abercromby Street, between Independence Square North and Park Street;
(d)     Knox Street, between Abercromby Street and Frederick Street;
(e)      Hart Street;
(f)      Duke Street, between Frederick Street and Wrightson Road;
(g)     Queen Street, between Frederick Street and Abercromby Street;
(h)     Cipriani Boulevard;
(i)      Chancery Lane;
(j)      Colville Street;
(k) Circular Road.
The driver of a motor vehicle being used by a Member of Parliament may park on Hart Street, between Frederick Street and Abercromby Street.
For taxi drivers, on  from 4 am to 2 pm, a taxi driver plying–
(a)      the St Ann’s route from Hart Street, shall operate from the southern side of Queen Street, between Frederick Street and Abercromby Street;
(b)     the St James route from Hart Street, shall operate from the northern side of Independence Square North, between Frederick Street and Henry Street.
The Order states, “Without prejudice to any other liability incurred by the vehicles commission of a traffic violation, a member of the Police Service may,  in accordance with section 108 of the Act, remove or cause to be removed a vehicle that is parked in contravention of this Order, or left on any road in such a manner that it is likely to cause an obstruction to persons lawfully using the road.”

Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi is expected to arrive at the Piarco International Airport on Thursday evening for a two-day official visit.
While one main event is planned for Thursday evening in Couva, most of Friday’s activities take place in Port of Spain as Modi is planned to deliver an address to both Houses of Parliament.
Already in preparation for his visit, all schools in Trinidad will be closed early on Thursday and some government offices also announced early closure.
