HISTORY will be made on Sunday for the People’s National Movement (PNM) as Pennelope Beckles will officially become the first female PNM political leader.
Beckles has already made history by becoming the first PNM female Opposition Leader.
On Sunday, the PNM will host its special convention to induct its new executive at City Hall Port of Spain.
Delegates, general council members, specially invited guests, and members of the newly elected executive will convene from 12 noon and the Special Convention will be called to order at 1.30 pm.
The historically significant programme will be punctuated with speeches from party leaders and with top local entertainment.
The officers of the PNM who were elected last Sunday will be installed and will take their oaths of office.
Beckles is expected to deliver her inaugural address as the political leader.
She will become the PNM’s fifth political leader following in the footsteps of most recently Dr Keith Rowley whose predecessors were Patrick Manning, George Chambers and Dr Eric Williams all of whom were also former prime ministers.
Her “One PNM” slate won the PNM popular vote last Sunday against Farai Hove Masaisai, who led the “People’s Champion’s” slate.
Following the preliminary results, Masaisai officially resigned from the PNM general council.
