Howai is New Central Bank Governor

FORMER finance minister Larry Howai is the new Central Bank Governor.
He received his instrument of appointment on Wednesday from Finance Minister Davendranath Tancoo.
This follows a request made to the President by Cabinet on Tuesday to revoke the appointment of the previous governor Dr Alvin Hilaire, with immediate effect, a media release from the Finance Ministry on Wednesday stated.

The ministry also said further information will be provided by the Government in the coming days.
The release stated, “The Minister of Finance welcomes Mr Howai, a man with proven financial experience and also with an outstanding track record, to his new role. He further extends immense gratitude to the new Central Bank Governor on his willingness to accept the position in service of the people of Trinidad and Tobago.”

Howai, a former chief executive officer of First Citizens Bank  was appointed Minister of Finance and the Economy on June 25, 2012, under the People’s Partnership Administration and remained as minister until the administration changed.
