Dear Editor,

I extend warmest congratulations to my colleague Jagdeo Singh on his appointment to the fifth-highest office in the land, Speaker of the House of Representatives.

I have spent some time in chambers with Jagdeo and can say unreservedly that he is a brilliant legal mind with a great sense of fairness and justice.

His legal analytical skills are second to none. He has honed and nurtured a cadre of upcoming and brilliant lawyers and has invested precious time and effort in doing so.

He has tremendous respect from the judiciary and inner bar as well as from regional colleagues. His legal skills are much admired and respected as well by some of the finest names of British King’s Counsel.

The injustice meted out to him by the outgoing administration in refusing to grant him silk only served to strengthen his resolve and make him an apt and deserving holder of high office.  He would bring much needed respect and dignity to the office of Speaker.
