PARLIAMENT has resumed.
The First Session of the 13th Parliament opened ceremonially on Friday at the Red House in Port of Spain.
Leading this Parliament are three women, President Christine Kangaloo, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar and Opposition Leader Pennelope Beckles.
The three women are also originally from south Trinidad.
All three spoke during Friday’s ceremony.
Kangaloo addressed both the Senate and the House of Representatives jointly while Persad-Bissessar and Beckles gave remarks in the House of Representatives.
Officiating over the parliamentary proceedings in the House of Representatives is newly appointed House Speaker Jagdeo Singh. Deputy House Speaker is Dr Aiyna Ali who is also the Member of Parliament for Princes Town.
Persad-Bissessar who is also the Member of Parliament for Siparia leads her other 25 Members of Parliament as well as two Members of Parliament from the Tobago People’s Party (TPP).
They do not form part of her Cabinet.
Beckles, the Member of Parliament of Arima in in charge of 13 Opposition Members of Parliament in the House of Representatives.
Following is the list of all Members of Parliament for Trinidad and Tobago. There are 41 MPs in the Lower House and Speaker Singh, who is not an elected member. In the Senate, there are 16 government, nine independent and six opposition senators. Two of the government senators are Senate Preident Wade Mark and Vice-president Kenya Charles.
