THE Point Fortin Desalination plant is now facing electrical problems following planned mechanical repair works undertaken.
And residents in La Brea and Point Fortin will continue to experience water inconsistency.
The Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) informed its customers that Seven Seas Water (SSW), owner/operator of the Point Fortin Desalination Plant, has advised that following the restart of the facility on Friday, the plant was currently operating at reduced production of 4.6 million gallons per day (mgd), compared to the normal 5.5 mgd.
“This is due to an electrical issue that occurred, following the planned mechanical repair works undertaken at the facility. WASA will continue to liaise closely with SSW, regarding the completion of the necessary repairs and will provide an update to customers subsequently,” WASA stated in a media release on Saturday.
During this period, customers in the following areas of Point Fortin and La Brea may be impacted by low pressures or no water: Point Fortin proper, parts of Techier, Vance River, Parrylands, Cochrane, Mahaica, Lot 10, Cochrane, Savannah, Harriman Park, Clifton Hill, Reservoir Hill, Merrimac, Vessigny, TGU, La Brea (up to the Pitch Lake).
Affected customers are advised that a limited truck-borne water service will be available upon request. Customers can request this service through the Customer Portal, accessible on WASA’s website at www.wasa.gov.tt.
For further information, assistance, or to request a truck-borne delivery, customers can also contact WASA’s Customer Call Centre toll-free at 800-4420/26.
