MAJOR school repairs and the Government’s upcoming laptop distribution programme are on the government’s agenda.

On Wednesday, Minister of Public Utilities Barry Padarath, Minister in the Ministry Clyde Elder, Minister of Education Dr Micheal Dowlath, Acting CEO of the Maintenance Training and Security Company Limited (MTS) Edilah Elahie, and members of the MTS management team met.

The Ministry of Education and MTS held discussions on areas of mutual cooperation, a release stated. The meeting was held at the Ministry of Public Utilities’ head office in St Clair.

The release stated that discussions included maintenance and repair works to be done at schools during the July/August vacation period and the construction of new schools in the 2025/2026 fiscal year.

Also on the agenda was collaboration with the Telecommunications Services of Trinidad and Tobago (TSTT) to support the government’s laptop distribution programme, which will be launched at the start of the new school term in September 2025.

With both MTS and TSTT operating under the Ministry of Public Utilities, the ministers said the alignment provides the ideal opportunity to deliver Government programmes more effectively and efficiently, the release stated.
