FOR those wondering about the Gender Affairs aspect of the government, that section was placed under the Ministry of the People, Social Development and Family Services.
On Thursday, Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar was asked about the allocation of that arm which was previously under the Office of the Prime Minister during the post-Cabinet’s media briefing.
She responded, “The Gender and Child Affairs will go into the Ministry of the People, Social Development and Families.”
The People’s National Movement (PNM) National Women’s league had raised saying that under the former PNM government, the ministry functioned within the Office of the Prime Minister with a dedicated Cabinet-level minister.

The National Women’s League  called for either the return of the ministry or assurance that its responsibilities will be clearly reassigned to another portfolio.
The elected Member of Parliament for Chaguanas East Vandana Mohit was appointed as Minister of the People, Social Development and Family Services.
Additionally, Persad-Bissessar said there will be no Ministry of Communication specifically geared towards government communications.
She said, “What I will have in the Office of the Prime Minister is government information to deal with the sharing of public information.”
