Presbyterian Church Congratulates Dowlath

MINISTER of Education Dr Michael Dowlath elevation to national office is both a testament to his unwavering dedication to the field of education and a proud moment for the Presbyterian family.
The Presbyterian Church of Trinidad and Tobago (PCTT) and the  Presbyterian Education Boards congratulated Dr Dowlath on his appointment which was announced on Saturday.

Dr Dowlath was successful in contesting the San Fernando West marginal  constituency under a United National Congress (UNC) banner.
PCTT stated via media release, “Dr Dowlath, a distinguished Presbyterian educator and servant-leader, has dedicated decades of his life to shaping young minds and building strong institutions. His Principalship at Iere High School and Naparima College was marked by academic excellence, moral guidance, and a deep commitment to holistic education.
“His elevation to national office is both a testament to his unwavering dedication to the field of education and a proud moment for the Presbyterian family. The Church recognises his new role as a continuation of his faithful calling to serve the youth and the nation with wisdom, humility, and integrity.”
The Church also prayed that Dr Dowlath and his team will be guided by God’s wisdom and grace, drawing on his experience and deep values to lead the transformation of the nation’s education system for the benefit of all.
“We affirm our support and offer continued prayers for Dr Dowlath, his family, and all who labour with him in this new chapter of public service,” the PCTT stated.

The appointment of Dr Dowlath to serve in Prime Minister Kamla Persad-Bissessar’s cabinet as Minister of Education did not come as a surprise but was highly anticipated.
According to the United National Congress (UNC) website, Dr Dowlath retired in 2021 after serving 15 years as Principal of Naparima College.
His distinguished career spans 34 years in secondary education, including 20 years as a school principal—first at Iere High School for five years, followed by his long-standing tenure at Naparima.

Dr Dowlath holds a BSc in Chemistry and Biochemistry, a Postgraduate Diploma and MA in Education, as well as a PhD in Education.
In addition to his school leadership, he served as a part-time lecturer at UWI’s School of Education for over two decades (1996–2018), where he played a vital role in training future educators.
His contributions to national education policy include serving as Chairman of the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (2010– 2015) and interim Chairman of the Cabinet-appointed GATE Committee (2011–2015).
Dr Dowlath is also  an elder and lay preacher in the Presbyterian Church, exemplifying his values-driven approach to leadership.
