FORMER prime minister Stuart Young has tendered his resignation as chairman of People’s National Movement (PNM) with immediate effect.
Young, who won his Port of Spain North/St Ann’s West seat, reaffirmed his support to the party.
His resignation was announced on social media on Wednesday afternoon hours after PNM’s political leader Dr Keith Rowley announced that effective from Thursday, he will no longer be the political leader of the PNM.
Young posted at 2 pm, “After reflection yesterday, I have today, tendered my resignation as Chairman of the People’s National Movement, effective immediately. I thank my party’s membership for the opportunity to have served as Chairman from December 2022 to date.
“I give my commitment to continue to advocate our cause and hold the opposition to account on behalf of my constituents, my party and the citizens in the parliament as we move forward.”
Young posted a photo of his resignation letter issued to PNM’s General Secretary Foster Cummings.
He stated it was an honour and an invaluable experience to serve as chairman.
Young, who won his Port of Spain North/St Ann’s West seat reaffirmed his support to the party.
On Wednesday, the PNM is expected to hold its General Council meeting at 4.30pm at Balisier House in Port of Spain.

Dr Rowley is expected to address the council.
A press briefing is expected to be held at 6.30 pm when it is expected that the PNM will announce their new political leader and leader of the Opposition following the party’s defeat at the polls last Monday.
