THE American Chamber of Commerce of Trinidad and Tobago (AMCHAM T&T) has extended congratulations to Prime Minister-elect Kamla Persad-Bissessar and the United National Congress (UNC) Coalition of Interests following their win in the 2025 General Election.
In a media release on Tuesday, AMCHAM T&T said the result reflected public support for the platform put forward by the UNC-led coalition.
The release stated, “We commend all citizens who exercised their democratic right to vote, and we wish Prime Minister-elect the Honourable Kamla Persad-Bissessar and her administration every success as they embark on this important chapter of leadership.”
The Chamber stated it stood ready to work with the new government to promote economic growth, attract investment and create a more business-friendly environment.
It identified key areas of collaboration, including revitalising the economy, boosting both the traditional and renewable energy sectors, expanding the digital economy and implementing reforms to improve the ease of doing business.
AMCHAM T&T noted that crime reduction must be a top priority for the new government.
“The number one priority of the Government has to be to reduce crime, a critical element in restoring investor and public confidence and ensuring a safe and prosperous society,” the release stated.
It also pointed to education reform as urgent, particularly in addressing regional challenges in mathematics and English.
“These improvements are essential to equip young people for future opportunities in both local and global markets,” it added.
Calling for unity and collaboration post-election, the Chamber said, “The more people in the boat, rowing in the same direction, the more likely we are to get to the intended destination.”
AMCHAM T&T stated it remained committed to working with the government and stakeholders to support innovation, build capacity and secure long-term prosperity for all citizens.
The release ended with congratulations to Persad-Bissessar and her team, stating that AMCHAM T&T looks forward to partnering with the new administration in the coming years.
