ELECTION day April 28, 2025 cannot, I repeat, cannot come soon enough.

I knew these elections were going to get dirty. I knew there was going to be a lot of us versus them. But lord have mercy, we’ve gone too far.

Unfortunately, due to my chosen form of employment-ish, I am obligated to keep up with the news… the good, the bad, the ugly and everything in between. A part of this is also taking note of the public’s response and perception. And whoa, whoa, things have gotten nasty.

What gets me the most are the blatantly racial comments, clearly made by people with smooth brains, because we all know when idiots cannot argue factually or clearly, they switch topics and attack racially. It’s repulsive.

The part that I find the hardest to swallow is that the leaders of the political parties, over whom the smooth brains are fighting over, have not said or done anything to condemn racial attacks. Not a peep.

Why do they say nothing you ask? The answer is simple, a divided nation is one that is easy to rule over. Having people attack one another based on their ethnicities doesn’t hurt the party, it reaffirms to their backwards thinking, beans for brains, die hard supporters that their party of choice will protect and favor them based on their ethnic background.

In the year 2025, in a nation such as ours, there should be NO “African party” and NO “Indian party.” And the heads of the parties should let their supporters know that. They should let them know that they are “Trinbagonian” parties, and all are welcomed and supported.

But nah, race-baiting is a great way to keep the blind loyalists blind and warp the minds of the disillusioned who may feel neglected from their party of choice, they stayed loyal too based on their ethnicity.

And again, I say how tremendously disappointed I am in the leaders of our political parties who choose to stay quiet while they watch the peasants scratch each other’s  eyes out, so they may ensure their positions in the ivory castle of government.

Absolutely deplorable.

Another issue that I have noticed is the spread of false and/or twisted information aimed at misleading people. From attacking each other’s plans, the economy, and everything in between, we are being fed a constant cycle of false and half-truths.

Sadly, most of the public take this “information” as fact without any critical thought.

It’s like all the promises being made, we are hearing from all parties how they will take this away, bring this back, do so and so, lower food prices, remove taxes, start wage negotiations at 10%, 20%… the more the merrier!

And it all sounds grand, but nobody is really asking how these things are being done and where the money is coming from. Some vague explanation is normally given, but logistically and logically it’s not as easy as our politicians are making it seem. They are also leaving out the part of these plans that may call for job cuts, lower prices here but much higher prices there and so forth. Something cannot come from nothing and nothing is won without loss.

But nah! Let’s not think too hard about it, because our leader, he, she or they, would never lead us astray.

Love how no one is talking about stronger regulations and legislation to curb corruption and clear paths to ensure those found guilty held accountable.

Speaking of accountability, none of the candidates have owned up to any errors of their own. I don’t care what you say but be red, yellow, green, blue, orange or pink, nobody’s hands are clean. And it would speak volumes if at least one of them stood up as said, “You know we have made mistakes… xyz… and we are sorry and here is how we are going to ensure it is made up to you.”

WILL NOT EVER HAPPEN! Because they know we have five-minute memories and the mentality that it’s okay if my party steals because they gave me this and did that, but if any other party steals, its not okay, off with their lying robbing heads.

We really are our own worst enemies.

The truly sad part is, after this hate, vitriol and division, after April 28th, the people whom you are fighting for, whom you are making your self look like an ass for, won’t think twice about you once they’ve gotten what they wanted. We will be left more fractured than before and vulnerable to being abused by whomever is in power.

All I can ask is that we stand back for a second and take a deep breath. Vote for whoever you want to, it’s okay to question them, this doesn’t make you a traitor, it makes you a stronger voter.

And folks let’s leave the racism, classism and cheap shots out of it. You aren’t helping yourself; you aren’t making your party look better and you aren’t helping people see your point.
