PRIME Minister Stuart Young said he was humbled by the warm reception he received from citizens as he submitted his nomination documents on Friday for the April 28 general elections.
Young filed his papers at Belmont Secondary School. He said that the nomination process went smoothly.

Minutes after submitting his nomination documents, Young shared, a Facebook Post. He said, “Today, on nomination day, I was truly humbled by the warm reception and heartfelt conversations I had with the people of Trinidad and Tobago.”
He added that the public’s support continued to motivate him in his service to the nation, using the hashtag #RedReadyandResponsible.
Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar of the United National Congress (UNC) also said that the nomination process went smoothly.
When asked about her confidence moving forward, Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar said she was “exceedingly confident.”
She described the announcement of a $1million ex-gratia payment to survivor Christian Boodram and the families of the divers in the Paria diving tragedy as an election gimmick.
Persad-Bissessar questioned the timing of the payment, saying that the action was shameless in the lead-up to election and may even be considered election bribery.
Persad-Bissessar said, “Now you say, you are going to pay the families when you could not have paid them before.”
