ADDIS ABABA, ETHIOPIA – Barbados Prime Minister Mia Mottley arrived here on Thursday at the start of a state visit that also coincides with the 38th African Union (AU) Summit.
“I am pleased to welcome Prime Minister Mia Mottley of the Republic of Barbados to Ethiopia,” Prime Minister of Ethiopia Abiy Ahmed said in a brief statement.
In a statement posted on X, Prime Minister Mottley said she was “looking forward to finding pathways to work more closely together”.
Mottley is being accompanied by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade, Kerrie Symmonds, along with the island’s Ambassadors to Kenya and Ghana, Alexander McDonald and Juliette Bynoe-Sutherland.

The AU summit being held under the theme “Justice for Africans and People of African Descent through Reparations”, is being attended by heads of state and government from all 55 AU member countries as well as representatives from international organisations, non-governmental organisations and the private sector.
It will focus on advancing reparatory justice and fostering racial healing across the continent.
The 38th ordinary session of the assembly of the AU heads of state ends on Sunday. (CMC)
