POLICE officers who stopped a car for having illegal tint, found marijuana worth $1.7 million in the trunk on Tuesday.
A release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) on Wednesday stated that officers of the Highway Patrol were patrolling along the Southbound lane of the Uriah Butler Highway, Chaguanas around 4.15 pm and stopped a Volkswagen Passat vehicle to check its compliance with tint regulations.
The behaviour of the driver and passengers raised officers’ suspicion, prompting a search of the vehicle. This search led to the discovery of 20 packets of compressed cannabis, with a total weight of 11.76 kilogrammes.
The estimated street value of the illegal narcotics is approximately $1,760,060.
The suspects were arrested and are currently assisting police with ongoing inquiries.
The exercise was coordinated by Senior Superintendent Garvin Simon and Assistant Superintendent Rampartap.
