IN an anti-crime operation conducted on Sunday morning in the Barataria district, police officers apprehended a suspect and seized a firearm and ammunition.
The operation took place between 3.30 am and 5.30 am, when officers executed a search warrant for dangerous drugs in the San Juan district.
During their search, they observed a male suspect fleeing along a track. The suspect discarded a firearm under a house before being captured.
The 27-year-old man, a resident of Pipiol Road, Upper Santa Cruz, was arrested for possession of a Glock 19 pistol with a selector switch and an extended magazine containing 30 rounds of 9mm ammunition.
The operation was expertly led by Acting Senior Superintendent Edwards, Superintendent Birch, and Acting ASP Callender, with coordination by Acting Inspector Ramsingh and W/Acting Inspector Cummings-Clarke.
Supervision was provided by Sergeant Maynard, Sergeant Green, Corporal Constantine, and Corporal Ramkissoon. Key contributions came from NED CSI personnel, W/Cpl John, and WPC Alexander, along with members of the Barataria CID, Barataria Police Station, and the NED Task Force.
Investigations are ongoing, with PC Bachan leading further inquiries into the case.
