The Teaching Service Commission has expressed sorrow and extended condolences following the passing of Lisa Morris-Julian, Minister in the Ministry of Education, along with her two children, in a house fire in Arima on Monday.
In a release on Tuesday, it stated that Morris-Julian was a prominent figure in the country’s political and educational landscape.
Her career included roles as Deputy Mayor, Mayor, and Member of Parliament for Arima and D’Abadie/O’Meara.
Her dedication to education was evident in her early career as a teacher at Barataria South Secondary School and Arima Central Secondary School, and later as a Minister in the Ministry of Education, the commission stated.
The Teaching Service Commission noted that interactions with Morris-Julian were always productive and aligned with the Commission’s commitment to excellence in education in Trinidad and Tobago.
She leaves behind a legacy as a motivating teacher, humble public servant, and role model for youth in her community. Her contributions will be fondly remembered by all who knew her, the release stated.
