THE United National Congress (UNC) has raised concerns with TTT Live Online regarding a broadcast interruption during the NCIC Divali Nagar event on Saturday.
The livestream cut off precisely when Opposition Leader Kamla Persad-Bissessar entered and resumed only after her speech concluded.
In a letter from UNC Chairman Davendranath Tancoo, it was noted that no technical difficulties occurred during other days or with other speakers.
Tancoo highlighted the suspicious timing, stressing that Persad-Bissessar is a significant state figure and the only Hindu female political leader in Trinidad and Tobago.
He said, “This year the NCIC Divali Nagar was addressed by other representatives with absolutely no technical difficulties.
“It is highly provocative that the entire presence of the Leader of the Opposition, who is the 9th highest ranked State official on the Table of Precedence of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago and the only Hindu female political leader, was completely eliminated by the government-run media house.”
The UNC urged TTT, a government-run media house, to uphold its obligation to independence and transparency, reminding them of their responsibilities as a taxpayer-funded organisation. The letter demanded a public apology from TTT’s leadership and a full explanation of the incident.
To address the situation, the UNC requested that TTT broadcast Persad-Bissessar’s address in full before and on Divali, with appropriate promotion. The UNC is awaiting a prompt response to their concerns.
