POLITICAL Leader of the Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP) Phillip Alexander is calling again for Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley to step down.

In a letter on Saturday addressed to Dr Rowley, Alexander expressed frustration over what he describes as mismanagement and wasteful spending during his tenure as prime minister. He questioned the government’s priorities amid warnings of difficult economic times, highlighting expenditures on projects such as stadium refurbishments and waterfront developments.

He said, “The truth is you held the reins for ten years and spent almost a trillion of our dollars with no management of any substance to show, no diversification, no development, nothing to look like you or anyone in your team had a clue much less a plan for the country.”

Alexander criticised the lack of progress in areas such as agriculture, water management, and energy policy, questioning the absence of meaningful diversification and development initiatives. He accused the government of failing to manage critical ministries effectively, resulting in financial losses with little to show for it.

“Where’s the agriculture that could have led to food independence and cut the ten billion food import bill by half?” Alexander asked.

He also pointed out controversial financial dealings, referencing funds directed towards projects and entities he deemed unnecessary. Alexander argued that these resources should have been allocated to the Heritage and Stabilization Fund instead.

Alexander’s letter also addressed concerns about property tax policies, describing them as misleading and potentially harmful to the economy. He warned that continued reliance on such measures could destabilize the country’s fiscal health.

He called for the government to step down, urging transparency and accountability for the substantial budgetary allocations over the years. “

He said, “The only salvation for Trinidad and Tobago is that you and your band of never do wells vacate the offices of power.”
