TWO brothers were shot and killed outside a childcare learning centre in Morvant on Wednesday.

Police said that gunmen had been waiting outside the Roxann’s Learning and Childcare Centre, shooting indiscriminately, resulting in the death of Gerald Caliste at the scene and his brother Kemo Caliste, who later died at the hospital.

Police said that a four-year-old boy, Dimitri Berkley, said to be the child of a female police officer, was also injured as well as Adina Jackson, 48, and Joseph Coulen.

Police said that Gerald Caliste was the target of the shooting and that the attack has been connected to the ongoing gang war across Port of Spain.

Snr Supt Mervyn Edwards said the shooting was gang-related and Kemo was “well-known” to police.

Four others, including the child, were injured and Edwards said the child was in stable condition at hospital and his injuries were classified as non-life-threatening.

“The North-Eastern Division Victim and Witness Support Unit was contacted and will provide the necessary support to the family of the victims and teachers, parents and children of the school, in the aftermath of the incident,” Edwards said.
