Bruce Wants to be PNM Youth Chairman

A 24-year-old member of the Port of Spain North/St Ann’s West constituency is vying for the post of Youth Chairman of the National Youth League of the People’s National Movement (PNM). That election takes place on Sunday.

This was revealed in a release on Wednesday.

Alisha Alliyah Bruce is contesting the position of Chairman of the National Youth League.

She is a member of Party Group 26 within the Port of Spain North/St Ann’s West constituency since 2019 and was elected Chairman of the constituency’s Youth League in 2022.

The release stated that she has spearheaded a variety of initiatives that successfully engaged young people and addressed their holistic development.

Bruce holds a Bachelor’s of Science in International Relations from the University of the West Indies, St Augustine.

She is currently a member of the PNM’s General Council and the Welfare Committee, Welfare Officer of the National Youth League and the Youth Officer for her constituency. 

“Alisha Bruce is the epitome of servant leadership. Her dedication to selfless service and community upliftment is exactly what the National Youth League needs in its next Chairman,” the release quotes a key party official as saying. 

It stated that in 2023, she represented the PNM in an international essay competition hosted by the CPC Central Committee of China, earning an award for her work on political and social development.

Her participation in the online series “Straight Talk with Stuart” further highlights her ability to engage in thoughtful dialogue on issues that matter most to the people.

The release stated, “Bruce’s candidacy has already garnered the support of key party figures and youth across the country. 

“In 2024, she was recognised by the PNM’s National Women’s League as a trailblazer for young women, embodying the ideals of perseverance, strength, and grace. Her unwavering commitment to empowering young people makes her the ideal candidate to lead the National Youth League.”

Alisha Bruce’s faith also plays a central role in her leadership philosophy. A devoted Christian, she believes that “a life lived in service to others is one that is truly wonderful in the sight of God.” Her favourite leadership quote is: “Leadership is the capacity to translate a vision into reality.” 

The PNM Youth League Conference takes place on Sunday at the Government Campus Plaza in Port of Spain. Constituencies each send three delegates to vote in the party’s youth elections.
