POLITICAL Leader of the Progressive Empowerment Party (PEP) Phillip Edward Alexander says the buck must stop with Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley.
He was responding to Dr Rowley’s comment that he was not to blame for the spiralling crime rate in the country. At a press conference at Whitehall on Wednesday, Dr Rowley said, “Don’t let anybody fool you, that crime is not being done based on who is in office.”
In a release on Thursday, Alexander said, “He’s aware that the TTPS is corrupt, but he ignores that to his and their benefit. He has repeatedly manipulated the process to appoint puppet commissioners from Griffith to Christopher to do his bidding, setting a subservience to compliance tone where protecting and serving should be.”
He said that Dr Rowley was aware that the Customs & Excise Division has complained to the Parliament that they were not equipped to stop the guns and drugs and that more than half the shipping containers entering this country come off the port unchecked, creating a highway for the importation of contraband.
Alexander said, “He feigns not to hear or to know that the borders are porous, that the Coast Guard do not patrol the coasts but play down de islands when not directly transporting illegals across the ‘panyol’ channel, or that our radars are down and there is no one monitoring the movement of drugs and guns though the country.”
He added, “There is of course much more. As prime minister the buck stops with him. The job is to appoint capable persons to steward the economy, manage the national infrastructure and secure the citizens, but he has chosen instead to create a cult of personality of persons willing to serve the unelected elites calling the shots in his government.
“No one outside of his control has any power over crime, and the notion that new laws are needed when the old laws served the empire for centuries is just plain dishonesty.”
