Former president of the National Council for Indian Culture (NCIC) Dr Deokinanan Sharma has died. He was 85.
NCIC executive member, Surujdeo Mangaroo confirmed Sharma’s death in a Facebook post on Friday.
He said, “I am deeply saddened to announce the passing of Dr Deokinanan Sharma, a remarkable leader and former President of the National Council of Indian Culture. His dedication to the promotion and preservation of Indian culture in Trinidad has left an indelible mark on our community.
“Dr Sharma was not only an influential figure but also a source of inspiration and guidance for many. His passion, wisdom, and commitment to cultural advancement will be sorely missed.
“During this difficult time, my thoughts are with his wife Mama Sati, children, daughters in law, grandchildren and all who were touched by his kindness and vision. May his memory be a source of comfort and inspiration to us all.
“May Bhagwan Shri Krishna accept him in his comforting arms. Aatma ko Sadgati prapt ho.
