A labourer has appeared before a Master of the High Court, charged with the murder of a Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA) employee.
Carmichael Pino, 39, a labourer, was charged with the offence when he appeared before Master Cazabon in the North A Criminal Court on Monday.
Julien Halls, 41, of Tabaquite, a chemical mixer, employed with WASA, was with friends at a bar in the district on July 21, 2024, when he got into an argument with another man.
During the altercation, the man allegedly armed himself with a knife and stabbed the victim in the chest. The victim was taken to the San Fernando General hospital for treatment where he died.
The suspect subsequently surrendered himself to officers of the Gran Couva Police Station later that day.
Investigations were spearheaded by Supt Persad of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations (HBI), Region Three.
Pino was charged on August 2, 2024 by PC Sean Lall, also of HBI Region Three, following advice received from acting Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Subrina Doorgadeen-Jaglal on that same date.
