A firearm, several rounds of ammunition and a quantity of marijuana were seized during an exercise on Monday.
A release by the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated that around 7.10 pm on Monday, officers of the Port of Spain Operational and Intelligence Unit were on an intelligence-led exercise in the vicinity of Saddle Road, Maraval.
During the exercise they intercepted a white Nissan panel van with a sole occupant, a 31-year-old man from Waterloo Road, Carapichaima.
The vehicle was searched, and officers discovered several black bags containing marijuana, amounting to 300 pounds.
The narcotics were seized and are being lodged at the Woodbrook Police Station. Acting on further information, a team from POS Operations and Intelligence Unit and Port of Spain Task Force proceeded to Waterloo Road, Carapichaima, where they conducted a search of a drain near the road way.
During the search, officers found a multi-coloured school bag which contained a Draco sub-machine gun with five rounds of 5.56 millimetre ammunition. The items were seized by Cpl. Hall and investigations are continuing into the matter.
