CANADA Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is saying that it was an Iranian missile that brought down a Ukrainian passenger plane that crashed near Tehran on Wednesday killing 176 people on board.
But he said it may have been done in error.
The leaders of Canada and the UK have called for a full and thorough investigation into the crash.
Iran has ruled out a missile strike by its air defences as the crash occurred hours after it carried out missile strikes on two airbases housing US forces in Iraq.
While tensions were still high by the US killing of top Iranian general Qasem Soleimani on January 3, Iran has invited Boeing to take part in the official inquiry into the crash.
Trudeau said he had received intelligence from multiple sources claiming that the plane was shot down by an Iranian surface-to air missile.
He added that it could have been unintentional.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson has echoed similar sentiments.
