MINISTER of Agriculture, Land and Fisheries Kazim Hosein says fasting can be the best way to achieve purification of heart.
In his Ramadan message on Monday, he said, “Fasting can become the best way to achieve purification of heart provided all of its demands are fulfilled.”
He said Ramadan, known for peace, tranquility, piety, righteousness, generosity, and bestowal, is a significant period for self-reflection, spiritual growth, and acts of kindness.
Hosein said it was important to implement the Islamic concept of faith, benevolence, and excellence during Ramadan.
He said fasting, described as a journey of self-reform and spiritual transformation, is a means of achieving purification of the heart when its demands are fulfilled.
He reminded the Muslim community of self-accountability and the opportunity for increased spiritual growth, during the holy month which started on Tuesday.
Hosein encouraged adhering to prescribed rules and regulations to restore the true spirit of fasting.
He said the Noble Prophet’s teachings noted that fasting goes beyond abstaining from food and drink; it is a shield against sins, crimes, vices, and un-Islamic acts.
Hosein said, “To sum up, fasting, according to Islam, is a spiritual discipline and as a consequence it inculcates moral discipline. It also imparts moral strength and leads to the promotion of virtues of piety.”
