THE National Security Council has recommended an immediate change in leadership at the Strategic Services Agency (SSA).
The recommendation endorsed by the Cabinet, has resulted in the replacement of the Head of the SSA retired Major Roger Best who has been placed on administrative leave as of Saturday, according to a release from the Office of the Prime Minister on Sunday.
Ambassador Brigadier General Phillips-Spencer, acting on the instruction of Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley returned from Washington to assume the role of acting Head of the SSA. The appointment, formalised through an instrument from the President.
Upon assuming the role, Ambassador Phillips-Spencer has initiated a comprehensive review and audit of all aspects of the SSA, including personnel, equipment, and processes.
The objective is to assess and enhance the agency’s operational effectiveness, ensuring it is aligned with the evolving security challenges faced by Trinidad and Tobago.
These developments follow a meeting of the National Security Council chaired by Dr Rowley on Friday.
