A Couva man appeared before a Master of the Court on Tuesday charged with murder which stemmed out of an altercation that occurred on Christmas Day.
Hardath Ram, a 48-year-old labourer was charged on Monday, following the advice of Deputy Director of Prosecutions Sabrina Dougdeen-Jaglal.
He was not called upon to plea when he appeared before a Master and will next appear on May 1, 2024.
According to police reports, Kameel Sooknanan, 57, of Felicity, Chaguanas, was allegedly involved in an altercation with the accused on December 25, 2023, when he was allegedly assaulted with a piece of bamboo and rendered unconscious. He later succumbed to his injuries on January 4.
Ram was arrested on January 24, 2024, following an investigation by PC Gaskin of the Couva Criminal Investigation Department (CID).
The investigation was supervised by Supt Dhillpaul, ASP Persad, Insp Ousman, Insp John and Sgt Bridgemohan of Homicide Bureau of Investigations Region Three, with assistance of PC Sirikissoon.
