A 37-year-old Kelly Village man was granted $200,000 bail with a surety by a master of the High Court after being charged with demanding money by menace from a businessman.
Keston Oliver, a mechanic, of Kelly Village, Caroni, was granted bail on Thursday and the matter was adjourned to February 22, 2024.
As part of his bail conditions, Oliver was ordered to report to his local police station biweekly and he is not to have any contact whatsoever with the alleged victim or witnesses in the matter.
Oliver was charged by Cpl Phillips, of the Caroni Police Station, who led enquiries into a police report in which a businessman told officers that men were allegedly demanding that he pay monies to them.
Following enquiries by a team of police officers into the reports of continuous extortion during the period August 3, 2023 and August 14, 2023, one suspect was arrested and later charged with the offence. Investigations are ongoing into the matter and police are expected to make further arrests.
