SHARING the lessons learnt from the Paria Fuel Trading Company incident in which four divers died back in February 2022, will be crucial in the prevention of similar incidents going forward.
The Energy Chamber of Trinidad and Tobago in a media release on Saturday stated that it welcomed the move by Government to make the Commission of Enquiry (CoE) report into the circumstances surrounding the deaths of the divers public.
The Chamber stated, “The Energy Chamber of Trinidad & Tobago welcomes the fact that the report from the Commission of Enquiry into the tragic Paria incident has been made public. Sharing the lessons gathered from this incident is critical for the prevention of similar events in the future.
“The detailed findings of the Commission will be studied over the coming days and weeks by stakeholders in the energy industry and the Energy Chamber remains committed to playing a positive role in improving safety in the energy industry and across the country.”
The report was laid in Parliament on Friday by Energy Minister Stuart Young.
The 520-page document initially sent to President Christine Kangaloo outlined the details of the CoE, its recommendations, methodology and cost.
The CoE headed by Jerome Lynch, KC has recommended that Paria Fuel Trading Company be charged for corporate manslaughter.
