A RED Tsar Bomba watch worn by Prime Minister Dr Keith Rowley on Emancipation Day has caused some observers to watch his timepiece more closely.
But Dr Rowley has dismissed criticism on social media with one person calling for an Integrity Commission investigation.
Dr Rowley posted on Facebook on Wednesday, “Glad to see that you’ll are so interested in my Tsar Bomba watch!
“BTW I see that this item has also sparked conversations about who gets a tax-free salary. All Ministers and Members of Parliament pay taxes on their income. I pay the full amount of taxes on my salary.”
Initially commentators on social media believed the watch was a Richard Mille, which sells for approximately US $360,000.
One asked if $2.8 million was comfortably resting on the Prime Minister’s hand.
Another questioned if it was a gift and if it was indeed one, it should have been declared to the Integrity Commission. If it was bought, Dr Rowley should produce a receipt, another said.
The Tsar Bomba line of luxury watches ranges from the cheapest – a classic crystal luminous waterproof watch valued at US $170 to the most expensive – interchangeable watches valued at US $1,300 based on Tsar Bomba’s website.
According to the website, the watch is named after the largest nuclear weapon ever detonated on the planet.
