CONSISTENT overnight rainfall has negatively affected some of the Water and Sewerage Authority (WASA)  facilities.

WASA on Monday stated that two regions were impacted  – North East and North West due to “flooded river conditions and high turbidity, resulting in clogged intake screens.”

In the North East facilities were affected at Guanapo, Aripo, Quare and Mc David.

In the North West region, facilities at  Blanchisseuse, La Fillete and Las Cuevas were affected.

WASA stated, “The Authority will continue to provide updates as every effort is being made to return these facilities to service at the earliest possible time.”

Trinidad and Tobago is under a yellow level weather alert.

The alert issued from the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS) came into effect on Sunday night at 10 pm.

It is expected to end on Monday at 5 pm.

The alert issued on Sunday stated, “There is 70% chance of intermittent rain/showers and isolated thunderstorms associated with the influx of equatorial moisture. This activity is expected to peak early tomorrow morning and favor Tobago and eastern Trinidad. Street flooding is likely in heavy downpours and gusty winds in excess of 55 km/hr can accompany showers and thunderstorms.”

The TTMS advises the population to be alert to cloud to ground lightning activity and do not venture into flood waters and to monitor weather conditions and updates from official sources via www.metoffice.gov.tt and www.odpm.gov.tt.
