TRINIDAD and Tobago is officially under a yellow level weather alert.
The alert was issued at 8.31 am on Tuesday by the Trinidad and Tobago Meteorological Service (TTMS), the time it also came into effect.
TTMS stated, “A series of low-level troughs bringing equatorial moisture into our area, is presently affecting Trinidad and Tobago. Periods of rain and/or showers of varying intensities are expected, with a medium to high (40 – 70%) chance of heavy showers and/or thunderstorms that can produce intense rainfall in excess of 50mm.”
Citizens should be on the lookout for flash flooding, localised ponding and possibly landslides.
In the event of heavy showers/thunderstorms, gusty winds in excess of 55 km/h as well as agitated seas in sheltered may be experienced.
While soils are near saturation, a peak in activity was expected from mid-morning to early afternoon, TTMS stated.
In its 5.30 am report, the TTMS had stated that for Trinidad, Tobago and the Southern Windwards, weather will be partly cloudy with a medium chance of showers becoming heavy or thundery.
The maximum forecast temperature for Tuesday is 29 degrees celsius at both Crown Point and Piarco.
