$175K Bail: Charged for Beating Wife with Fan Metal Rod

A 48-YEAR-OLD man has been granted bail in the sum of $175,000 after being charged for beating his common-law wife with a fan-metal rod.

He was granted bail in the sum of $175,000 with a surety, when he appeared before Magistrate Alexander Prince, at the Couva Magistrates’ Court on March 28, a Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) release stated on Tuesday.

The accused was charged with Assault Occasioning Actual Bodily Harm, Threats to Kill and Being Armed with a Weapon. 

As part of the bail condition, he was ordered to report to a police station in his district once per week, he shall not communicate indirectly or directly with the victim and he shall not go within 100 metres of the victim. 

He is expected to reappear in court on April 24.

A police report stated that on December 21, 2022, a woman and her common-law husband had a domestic dispute during which the man allegedly dealt the woman several blows with a metal fan rod and allegedly made threats to kill her.

The incident was reported on January 6 to the Chaguanas Police Station, Special Victims Department and an investigation was conducted by WPC Campbell following which the accused was arrested.

The investigation was supervised by Senior Superintendent Claire Guy-Alleyne, Ag ASP Seecharan, and acting Corporal Jagroop.
