All Systems Go for Swearing-in of 7th President on Monday

THE grandstand of the Queen’s Park Savannah was abuzz with activity on Friday in preparation for the inauguration of Christine Kangaloo as Trinidad and Tobago seventh President on Monday.

The military went through their routines while protocol officers and media personnel were briefed.

President-elect Kangaloo will be sworn in by Chief Justice Ivory Archie and become the country’s second female head of State succeeding incumbent President Paula-Mae Weekes who served one five-year term.

Along with dignitaries, members of the public were offered invitations on a first-come, first-serve basis.

On Friday, Communications Advisor to President Weekes, Cheryl Lala said there were still invitations available at five locations – Shaw Park Cultural Complex, Shaw Park, Tobago, the National Academy for the Performing Arts (NAPA) Port of Spain, Southern Academy for the Performing Arts (SAPA), San Fernando, Arima Borough Corporation head office and Xtra Foods Plaza, O’Meara Road, Arima.

The ceremony starts and 10 o’clock and is expected to take an hour and 15 minutes.
