Mayaro Businesses Help Cadenza Steelband

Spread the love

By Sue-Ann Wayow

AFTER fire destroyed their camp last December, the Cadenza Steel Pan band in Mayaro was left without a space to practice.

Looking forward to the going on the roads again after a two-year-hiatus, the band is asking for any help as it seeks to get itself back on its feet.

Manager Charles Hill told AZP News that this week, the band was grateful to receive material organised by Mayaro MP Rushton Paray to rebuild a shed at Pierreville, Mayaro, where they could practice.

Hill said the 32 members of the band should restart practice next week after the shed’s completion.

However, he said some instruments were destroyed in the fire and he has to sort them out completely.

At least three tenor pans were destroyed.

Hill said while Cadenza was looking forward to the big stage at Panorama this year, due to financial constrains they could not make it.

But, he said, “We will be playing on the road again.”

Paray in a Facebook post said several businesses from Mayaro have provided support and construction will be completed soon.

Additional assistance was still needed for the purchase of lighting fixtures for the shed he stated.

Paray thanked those who already supported: Vernon Persad of Persads The Food King &  Bright Ideas, Mayaro Family Medicine – Kaveeta Paray, Shopmctv – Nelisha Paray, Allan Marshall & Associates Company Ltd –  Diko Alexander, Inter Emergencies Ltd and Vees Enterprises – Vediash Maharaj.

Anyone wishing to lend additional assistance can contact Paray via WhatsApp at 6895224 or call Hill at 316-3684.
