THE Covid-19 Booster Programme will resume on January 6, 2023.
Minister of Health Terrence Deyalsingh said on Sunday that especially on weekends, the booster programmes will be rolled out at malls and popular places of interests.
This will be beneficial to everyone in particular, the elderly and the immuno-compromised, he said.
He was speaking to the media during a visit to mothers of newborn Christmas babies at the Port-of-Spain General Hospital.
“What you are seeing now is the elderly being most affected either because they have not been vaccinated or if they have been vaccinated, they have not been boosted and their immunity is waning,” Deyalsingh said.
He added, “We want to make sure with Carnival, with people coming in, that we protect our elderly, our immunocompromised.”
Deyalsingh said the ministry will continue to encourage those who have not yet taken the Covid-19 vaccine to do so and those who were already vaccinated will be encouraged to be boosted if they have not had an additional shot.
Deyalsingh said, “Our public healthcare system which is absolutely free is probably one of the best in the world and people don’t appreciate it until they have to use it.”
