MARK Pereira, who promoted Fine Arts in Trinidad and Tobago, has been killed.
According to reports, he was shot and killed in Blanchisseuse on Monday night during an attempted robbery.
Pereira was a publisher of art books in Trinidad and Tobago and was the owner of 101 Art Gallery in Port of Spain.
His publications go back to the 1980s and includes: Views Of Trinidad, 1851 M J Cazabon 1985, Cazabon Biography 1987, Stollmeyer’s Castle, John Newel Lewis 1988, A Child Of The Tropics – Yseult Bridges 1988, Views Of Dominica – Porter 1989 and The Cazabon Portfolio – Set Of Prints 1987.
He was also a consultant to private and corporate collections.
Pereira was born in 1955 to a Trinidadian father and Grenadian mother. The family emigrated to South Africa in 1963 but Pereira returned to Trinidad in 1978.
One person posting sentiments on social media stated, “Mark Pereira. Not a foreign national but a real Trini to the bone. A humble, kind individual, who was always full of love, laughter and fun.”
The person also added, “This is more than just another sad result of our government’s failure to curb the crime situation, it shouts to all and sundry that despite its beauty. T&T is doomed to descend to Haitian status.”
