AN accountant who did not deposit over $300,000 collected into a company’s account has been charged with larceny.
Richard Deonarinesingh, 34, of Gasparillo, charged with larceny servant in the sum of $316.501.78 was granted $170,000bail by a Justice of Peace on Wednesday.
He is expected to appear in court on December 5, a release from the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) stated.
According to a police report, between the period December 1, 2017 to September 2018, an accountant at an engineering company collected $316,501.78, then allegedly failed to remit the money into the company’s bank deposit or give an explanation for the missing money.
The missing funds were discovered during an internal audit of the company’s sales. The matter was reported in March 2021 to the Fraud Squad Office, San Fernando. Ag Cpl Ramdial conducted the investigation, which resulted in the arrest of Deonarinesingh on Tuesday.
Investigations were spearheaded by Superintendent Ruben, coordinated by ASP Samuel and supervised by acting Insp Seepersad.
